Side by side, capability by capability

Everything in xpna's column comes from material its company, XPNA Pty Ltd, publishes itself, checked 20 October 2026. That covers xpna's website, pricing page, help centre, roadmap and Xero App Store listing, and the website and help centre of xpnAi, a separate MCP product from the same company. Where xpna does not publish something we mark it "not published". That is not the same as saying the product cannot do it.

  4. Every dataSights customer gets a dedicated Azure SQL database, so custom reports are built over that database in Excel, Power BI, any other tool that speaks SQL, or an AI assistant. There is no per-report or per-seat limit, and each package has a single tier with every feature in it. The data is what is priced. Account transactions, payroll and fixed assets cost extra on top of the base Xero Consolidation price, and connectors to systems such as inventory and CRM are priced per source system.
  5. xpna's website describes Excel-built packs, dashboards and commentary published from one source, and its help centre describes reports built in Excel workbooks and dashboards viewed in xpna Web. Its website, help centre, roadmap and Xero App Store listing do not describe a PowerPoint export. That is not the same as saying xpna cannot produce one. Checked 20 October 2026.
  6. dataSights board packs export to PDF in A4 landscape or PPTX in 16:9 widescreen. Management reports separately export to Excel or PDF.
  7. xpna's help centre states that Xero budgets are retrieved during data synchronisation, each stored as a separate scenario, and describes writing values from Excel back into the xpna database. Its pricing page lists unlimited planning scenarios on its Business plan. Its website describes driver-based planning models, rolling forecasts, bottom-up planning by role, vendor, contract and opportunity, and three-way forecasting rules across the profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow, and its help centre describes managing those three-way forecasting rules. xpna website, pricing page and help centre, checked 20 October 2026.
  8. xpna's comparison page describes multi-entity consolidation for customers ranging from single-entity teams to groups consolidating hundreds of entities, with chart of accounts mapping across entities, and its help centre home page describes customers with 1 to 500 entities. Its pricing page lists up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities on its Business plan. Its help centre describes average monthly and month-end rate tables that can be overridden by currency, scenario and period, with rates for 13 currencies updated daily, and asks customers to contact its support team about adding another currency. Its comparison page lists FCTR, the foreign currency translation reserve. Its Xero App Store listing describes consolidated reporting across multiple entities, regardless of their source system or underlying chart of accounts, and its help centre marks its Sage Intacct and Dynamics 365 Business Central connectors as feature preview. Its pricing and comparison pages list Sage Intacct and Dynamics 365 among the systems it connects to natively, and its roadmap lists the Sage Intacct integration as shipped. xpna website, pricing page, help centre, roadmap and Xero App Store listing, checked 20 October 2026.
  9. xpna's Xero App Store listing describes consolidated reporting across multiple entities, regardless of their source system or underlying chart of accounts. Its pricing page lists Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks entities on its Business plan, and premium ERP connections, including Sage Intacct and TechnologyOne, on its Enterprise plan. Its help centre documents connectors for accounting systems including Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, Acumatica and Puzzle, and marks its Sage Intacct and Dynamics 365 Business Central connectors as feature preview, with a waitlist. It carries the same note on a separate SAP Business One Connector page, though not on its main SAP Business One page. Its roadmap lists the Sage Intacct and SAP Business One integrations as shipped. xpna Xero App Store listing, pricing page, help centre and roadmap, checked 20 October 2026.
  10. xpna's help centre describes elimination entities that hold the offsetting entries for intercompany balances, with optional rules that name a source entity and the accounts to eliminate, an auto-balance option, and elimination entries entered by hand where no rule is set. Its roadmap lists multi-currency balance sheet eliminations as shipped. xpna help centre and roadmap, checked 20 October 2026.
  11. xpna's help centre describes an Excel add-in with a task pane and custom functions that read data from the xpna database, write planning values and comments back to it, and drill to transactions. Its comparison page describes its Excel interface as available for PC, Mac and web. xpna help centre and comparison page, checked 20 October 2026.
  12. xpna's help centre describes Power BI connectivity as in feature preview, with a waitlist, and states that a workspace must have role-based security enabled to use Power BI, and that a subscription administrator enables Power BI access workspace by workspace. It lists Power BI under a page titled Power BI Add-on. Its pricing page lists role-based security on its Enterprise plan, and its help centre describes role-based security as an add-on a subscription administrator can add where the plan allows add-on purchases, or that can be arranged through xpna support. Its help centre also describes API keys that give access to transaction data over OData for Excel tables and Power BI, and its roadmap lists pre-built Power BI models as shipped. xpna help centre, pricing page and roadmap, checked 20 October 2026.
  13. dataSights lands transformed tables in a dedicated Azure SQL database you own, so Power BI connects by Import for the consolidated views, or by DirectQuery against account transactions where that data point is enabled. Account transactions is a paid add-on to the base Xero Consolidation price.
  14. xpna's Xero help page states that xpna does not push data back into Xero for any data set, and that it does not write planning data back into Xero. It adds that nothing prevents users building custom Xero imports from xpna data. Its Xero App Store listing shows every type of shared data as shared from Xero to XPNA. Its help centre describes writing values from Excel back into the xpna database, not into the ledger. The same company, XPNA Pty Ltd, operates xpnAi, a separate product with its own website, help centre and subscription. xpnAi's website states that writing back to Xero is disabled by default and must be enabled when an agent connection is created, that journals, bills and invoices are then created in Xero in a draft state, that xpnAi cannot approve or post them, and that permitted write actions can update master data such as contacts, charts of accounts and tracking categories directly. xpna help centre and Xero App Store listing, and xpnAi website, privacy policy and help centre, checked 20 October 2026.
  15. From Excel, dataSights posts eleven record types: manual journals, invoices and bills, credit notes, purchase orders, bank transactions, bank transfers, payments, accounts, contacts, items and tracking categories. Through an AI assistant it posts invoices and bills, manual journals, credit notes, bank transactions, bank transfers, purchase orders, contacts, accounts and tracking categories, in draft or posted mode, and attaches documents to records already in Xero. Both routes reach multiple Xero organisations in a single action. The AI route works in batches of up to 200 records, with up to 20 attachments per call.
  16. xpna's help centre describes a drill to transactions action that queries all the source transactions making up a reported value and presents them as an Excel table in a new worksheet, with a column linking back to the source system where possible. Its comparison page describes drill-through from every reported number back to source transactions. Its help centre also describes API keys that give access to transaction data over OData. xpna help centre and comparison page, checked 20 October 2026.
  17. dataSights drill-down reaches account transactions where that data point is enabled. Account transactions is a paid add-on to the base Xero Consolidation price.
  18. xpna's help centre documents connectors for Stripe, HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Deel, Projectworks, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, OData and FTP, and file uploads, along with data loaders that bring in data from SQL Server, FTP, its public API and CSV or JSON files. It marks the Stripe, HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Deel, Projectworks and PostgreSQL connectors and the public API as feature preview, with a waitlist for the connectors, and describes the Pipedrive connector as a private pilot. Its roadmap lists the HubSpot, Projectworks, Salesforce, Stripe and Deel integrations as shipped. Its integrations page also lists Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric and Premier Construction Software, and states that for a different data source xpna can probably build a connector. xpna help centre, roadmap and integrations page, checked 20 October 2026.
  19. 160+ connectors are available. On Xero Consolidation, Xero, Excel Online and Google Sheets are included. Connectors for other source systems, such as inventory, CRM and external payroll systems, are priced per source system. Account transactions, payroll and fixed assets are Xero data sets priced as add-ons.
  20. xpna's AI page describes an MCP server through which Claude and OpenAI build Excel reporting decks, forecasting input templates, commentary, dashboard widgets and calculations, and its Xero App Store listing says xpna ships with an MCP server that lets you connect Claude or ChatGPT to answer questions, perform variance analysis or send reports on a schedule. Its pricing page lists the MCP server for Claude and OpenAI on its Enterprise plan, from A$749 per month. Its help centre files its MCP pages under the name xpnAI and marks them as feature preview, and its roadmap lists the xpna MCP server as shipped. xpnAi, a separate product from the same company, is a different MCP server, with its own website, help centre and subscription, that connects Xero data to the agent you choose, such as Claude, ChatGPT, GrokBot or Cursor. xpnAi's own help centre also writes that product's name as xpnAI, so the name alone does not tell the two apart: xpna's assistant and MCP server work inside an xpna workspace, and xpnAi's MCP server is a separate service, with its own sign-in and its own Workspaces, at a different address. xpna AI page, pricing page, help centre, roadmap and Xero App Store listing, and xpnAi website and help centre, checked 20 October 2026.
  21. xpnAi's website and help centre describe the agent you connect creating draft journals for accruals and their reversals, deferred revenue and prepayments, intercompany bill and invoice pairs, and changes to accounts and tracking across Xero organisations, where write access is enabled for the connection. Journals, bills and invoices are created in a draft state, and its website states that xpnAi cannot approve or post them and that your team reviews and approves or posts them in Xero. Its help centre states that deferral and accrual plans use one connected Xero organisation at a time. xpna's pricing page lists its own MCP server for Claude and OpenAI on its Enterprise plan, and its help centre marks its MCP pages as feature preview. xpna's AI page and Xero App Store listing describe Claude, OpenAI or ChatGPT, connected through xpna's own MCP server, building Excel board packs as a review-ready first version, answering questions and sending reports on a schedule, and xpna's website, help centre and Xero App Store listing do not describe AI posting to the ledger. xpnAi website and help centre, and xpna website, pricing page, help centre and Xero App Store listing, checked 20 October 2026.
  22. Querying transactions, and the Claude month-end workflows built on them, need account transactions, a paid add-on to the base Xero Consolidation price.
  23. xpna's help centre describes xpnAI, an AI assistant used within an xpna workspace, in feature preview, that processes questions and workspace data using external AI services. A workspace administrator must accept its terms to enable it. It lists the data shared with external AI service providers as chat messages and queries, model structure and metadata, and the workspace data needed to answer a question, and states that queries and responses are processed in real time and are not stored or used for training by the external provider. The separate product xpnAi describes itself as an MCP server, not another AI tool, and states that AI is not used inside xpnAi without your express permission, and that even then it is only used to find accounts and contacts likely to be candidates for deferrals or intercompany loans, based on their names. xpna help centre and xpnAi website, checked 20 October 2026.
  24. AI Connect itself contains no AI. It executes queries against your database with your permissions enforced, and the thinking happens in the AI tool you choose to connect, in front of you. User roles and permissions set in dataSights apply in the web application, the Office Add-In and AI Connect alike, and every AI query against your data is logged. For most customers, the security question that matters is about their own Claude or Copilot account, and most resolve it by using a company account their information security team has already approved. dataSights uses a Microsoft-hosted AI model inside the platform to write descriptions of the views you expose to AI tools, and it is given table names and column names only, never your data. Microsoft does not use any of it for training. The model is hosted in the UK by default, and customers can switch it to Australia if they want.
  25. xpna's pricing page lists three plans. Business covers up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities, with standard GL integrations, standard report templates and unlimited planning scenarios. Enterprise adds premium ERP connections, role-based security, the MCP server for Claude and OpenAI, personalised onboarding and priority chat support. Custom covers flexible entity and integration limits and custom report templates. Its help centre describes role-based security as an add-on where the plan allows add-on purchases, and states that, depending on the subscription's user allocation, an accepted invitation could require an additional user subscription, referring to its pricing for additional users; its pricing page does not list a price for additional users. xpnAi is priced separately, by Xero connection, with unlimited users. xpna pricing page and help centre, and xpnAi pricing page, checked 20 October 2026.
  26. On 20 October 2026 xpna's pricing page, set to AUD, listed its Business plan at A$395 per month for up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities, with a 15-day trial, and its Enterprise plan from A$749 per month. The page does not say whether these prices include GST. Its cloud terms state that the customer is responsible for any taxes arising from its use of the service, and that taxes the company is required by law to collect will be invoiced to and paid by the customer. Its comparison page gives the Business price as USD $275 or AUD $395 per month. xpnAi's pricing page listed A$65 per month on monthly billing, including one Xero connection, and A$15 per month for each additional connection, with 20% savings on annual billing, and its help centre states that its prices exclude tax. dataSights prices Xero Consolidation by the number of Xero entities. The dataSights entry price covers one or two Xero entities with reports data; account transactions, payroll, fixed assets and extra connectors are priced as add-ons. All of these change, so check each provider's own pricing page. The dataSights price excludes GST.

Software changes often, so check both providers' current pages before deciding. dataSights publishes this page and makes one of the two products compared.

Where dataSights goes further

Six things dataSights does, each one checked against what xpna publishes.

Post back to Xero from Excel or your AI assistant

From an Excel sheet, dataSights posts eleven record types, each to multiple Xero organisations in a single upload. They run from manual journals and invoices through to purchase orders, bank transfers and tracking categories. Through an AI assistant it posts invoices and bills, manual journals, credit notes, bank transactions, bank transfers, purchase orders, contacts, accounts and tracking categories, in draft or posted mode, and attaches documents to records already in Xero. xpna's help centre states that xpna does not push data back into Xero.

Every feature and every seat, in one tier

Each dataSights package has a single tier with every feature in it, AI Connect included at no extra cost, and unlimited seats. On Xero Consolidation you pay for the data: it is priced by Xero entities, from A$80 per month excluding GST, with account transactions, payroll, fixed assets and extra connectors as add-ons. xpna's pricing page lists its Business plan at A$395 per month for up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities, without saying whether GST is included, and its MCP server on its Enterprise plan, from A$749 per month. Its help centre states that, depending on the subscription's user allocation, an accepted invitation could require an additional user subscription.

The database is yours, as well as the reports

Every dataSights customer gets a dedicated Azure SQL database, hosted by us or running in your own Microsoft account. Your analysts, your BI tools and your own scripts query it directly, with eliminations and FX already applied in the consolidated views. xpna's security page states that ownership of data is retained by the customer, and its help centre describes how it loads ledger data into xpna, with transaction data available over an OData feed.

Power BI against real tables

xpna's help centre describes its Power BI connection as in feature preview, needing role-based security on the workspace, with transaction data also available over an OData feed. The dataSights database is yours, so Power BI connects by Import for the consolidated views. DirectQuery reaches account transactions where that data point is enabled, as a paid add-on. No Power Query chain in the middle.

160+ connectors into one warehouse

dataSights runs 160+ connectors into one managed warehouse. Reporting usually stalls on the systems that are not the ledger: payroll, inventory, CRM. In dataSights they land in the same database as your Xero data, ready for Excel, Power BI or an AI tool. Connectors for other source systems, such as inventory, CRM and external payroll systems, are priced per source system. Beside its accounting connectors, xpna's help centre documents SQL Server, OData, FTP and file upload connections, and CRM, billing, payroll and project connectors that it marks as feature preview, most of which its roadmap lists as shipped.

Your own AI does the work, and acts in Xero

dataSights exposes the consolidated layer to Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot through AI Connect. The thinking happens in the AI tool you choose, with your permissions enforced and every AI query logged. Through an AI assistant it posts invoices and bills, manual journals, credit notes, bank transactions, bank transfers, purchase orders, contacts, accounts and tracking categories, in draft or posted mode, and attaches documents to records already in Xero. xpna's pricing page lists an MCP server for Claude and OpenAI on Enterprise, which its help centre marks as feature preview; its AI page says generated work uses xpna's permissions.

Who it is for

Who each one is typically used by

xpna

Excel-connected reporting, planning and consolidation software from XPNA Pty Ltd, an Australian company. Its site names rapidly growing and acquisitive businesses, finance teams, and accounting firms and virtual CFOs as who it is for. It connects to Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and ERP systems, and its Business plan covers up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities.

Typically used by finance teams running board packs, forecasts and dashboards from Excel across a group, and by accounting firms and virtual CFOs building repeatable client reporting packs.

dataSights

Built for multi-entity finance teams running on Xero, and for the BI and report developers who serve them. Used by 300+ businesses.

Typically used by a group whose reporting problem starts before the report. It is pulling Xero and non-Xero systems together, posting journals and invoices back across every entity, and handing analysts a database they can query directly.

Frequently asked questions

Both consolidate multiple entities and produce management reports. The difference is what sits underneath.

xpna is built around Excel-connected reporting and planning. Its help centre describes how it loads ledger data into xpna, with reports, planning models and dashboards built in Excel and in xpna Web, and states that xpna does not push data back into Xero. Its pricing page lists an MCP server for Claude and OpenAI on its Enterprise plan, which its help centre marks as feature preview.

dataSights gives you a dedicated, reporting-ready SQL database, down to account transactions when you add them to your plan. That one database feeds:

  • Customisable management reports and board packs in the dataSights platform, including AR and AP detail rebuilt from the underlying transactions, so you can rerun it as at any date, not just the last sync
  • Excel automation through the Office Add-in and Power Query, including posting journals, invoices and other records back across multiple Xero organisations in one action
  • Power BI and other BI tools, connected straight to your database
  • AI Connect, our MCP, which your own AI uses two ways: month-end work, querying transactions and posting back to Xero, and report development, creating SQL views and creating and editing mapping tables so what it builds persists. Your own AI can also set up consolidation mappings, eliminations and custom report templates from chat
  • 160+ connectors bringing the systems beside the ledger, inventory, CRM, payroll, into the same database

dataSights does: from Excel it posts eleven record types, including journals, invoices, credit notes and payments, each to many Xero organisations in a single upload. Through an AI assistant it posts invoices and bills, manual journals, credit notes, bank transactions, bank transfers, purchase orders, contacts, accounts and tracking categories, in draft or posted mode, and attaches documents to records already in Xero. xpna's help centre states that xpna does not push data back into Xero for any data set. xpnAi, a separate product from the same company, keeps write access to Xero off by default; where write access is enabled for a connection, it creates journals, bills and invoices in Xero in a draft state for your team to approve or post, and, its website states, can update contacts, accounts and tracking categories directly.

Both can. dataSights keeps account transactions, a paid add-on, in your own database, so a figure can be traced to its transactions and joined to other systems across every entity. xpna's help centre describes drilling from a reported figure to the source transactions behind it, presented as an Excel table with links back to the source system where possible, and an OData feed of transaction data.

xpna sells Business, Enterprise and Custom plans. Business covers up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities, and its pricing page lists the MCP server, role-based security and premium ERP connections on Enterprise. Its help centre states that, depending on the subscription's user allocation, an accepted invitation could require an additional user subscription. dataSights prices Xero Consolidation by Xero entities and Data Syncing by source systems, with unlimited seats and every feature in both; account transactions, payroll, fixed assets and connectors to systems such as inventory and CRM are Xero Consolidation add-ons.

xpna connects to Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online and ERP systems, with some of its ERP connectors marked as feature preview in its help centre, and a group can combine entities from different accounting systems. dataSights consolidation is Xero-led, and its 160+ connectors bring external payroll, inventory, CRM, e-commerce and other systems into the same warehouse, priced per source system.

xpna's pricing page, set to AUD, lists its Business plan at A$395 per month for up to five Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks entities, and its Enterprise plan from A$749 per month. The page does not say whether these prices include GST. dataSights starts at A$80 per month covering one or two Xero entities, excluding GST, with consolidation, multi-currency and AI Connect included and account transactions, payroll, fixed assets and extra connectors as add-ons. All of these change, so check each provider's own pricing page.
