Read the comparisonHow to evaluate a Xero reporting and consolidation tool
Six things worth checking in any tool in this category, including ours. They name no product, and the answer depends on how your group works.
Which accounting systems your group runs on
Some tools consolidate only Xero organisations. Others combine Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB or Sage entities in one group. If your entities sit on more than one accounting system, check this first.
Whether you need forecasting inside the tool
Some tools build budgets, forecasts and scenarios in the product. Others report against budgets and forecasts you keep in Xero, Excel or elsewhere. Decide how your team plans before you compare.
Whether it writes back to the ledger
Some tools only read from your accounting system. Others also post journals, invoices or other records back to it. Check which records, into which systems, and whether they land as drafts.
Who owns the data, and what happens when you leave
Ask where your consolidated history lives: in the vendor's system or in a database that is yours, which your analysts, BI tools and AI assistants query directly. Check whether history survives disconnecting a source or ending the subscription, and what you can take with you.
How reports reach the people who read them
Some tools email report packs to recipients on a schedule. Others refresh the data on a schedule and leave the report to be opened, exported or shared. Check how your board and managers expect to receive theirs.
What it costs at your size
Prices are set per company, per entity, per organisation or per firm, and some features sit on higher plans. Price the plan you would actually be on, for your number of entities, and check whether GST is included.
What your AI can see and do
Most tools in this category now offer AI. First ask whose AI it is: built into the product means your numbers are processed by a model and vendor you did not choose, while bringing your own assistant keeps that choice, and that exposure, with you. Then ask what it can see: summary balances, or every transaction. And what it can do: answer questions only, or build reports and post journals.
How these comparisons were compiled
Published by dataSights. We make one of the two products compared on each page, and each page is written to show where dataSights fits, so read it alongside the other vendor's own material rather than instead of it. None of the pages scores a product or declares a winner, and this index lists them alphabetically by product name.
Every statement about another product comes from material that company publishes itself, such as its website, pricing page, help centre, blog and Xero App Store listing. None comes from third-party review sites or our own testing of their product. Where a product does not publish something, the page marks it "not published", which is not the same as the product being unable to do it.
Each comparison carries its own last-checked date, shown on its card above. This index was last checked 26 October 2026. These products change often, so check the date on any comparison and verify anything that would change your decision against the vendor's own pages. If something is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
